GMA News Reporter Captures the Hearts of Netizens During Typhoon Pepito
NICO WAJE – The GMA News reporter gained attention for both his weather updates and his good looks on November 17, during Typhoon Pepito.
Typhoon Pepito caused significant damage across several areas in the Philippines. The storm resulted in nine deaths, with the majority occurring in regions directly impacted by the typhoon. Catanduanes was particularly devastated, with 4,000 houses destroyed, 500 of which were completely wiped out. The storm’s intensity, with wind speeds reaching 305-350 kilometers per hour, left a trail of destruction.
In addition to the loss of life and homes, Pepito caused severe agricultural damage, contributing an additional P266 million to the already high P7 billion in damages caused by recent typhoons. Infrastructure was also heavily affected, with P10.4 billion in damages reported from all typhoons, and P1.5 billion of that attributed to Pepito alone. Roads and bridges, particularly in Cagayan, Central Luzon, and the Bicol region, were severely impacted, with 44 bridges becoming impassable.
Despite these challenges, the government has been actively providing relief, including over 3,000 roofing sheets and repair kits, as well as evacuations to ensure the safety of residents in high-risk areas.
Amid the onslaught of Pepito, news reporters braved the storm to provide the latest updates. Among them was GMA News reporter Nico Waje, who gained attention for both his weather updates and his good looks. Reporting live from Manila Bay in Navotas City, Waje seemed to catch more eyes for his appearance than for the storm itself. Netizens flooded the comment section with playful and admiring reactions.
Netizens jokingly swooned over his looks and showed concern for his safety during the storm. Despite the attention, Waje has not commented on the reactions. His appearance, combined with his report, gave viewers an unexpected mix of information and entertainment.
