Boy Abunda Disappointed with Miss Universe 2024
BOY ABUNDA – The King of Talk shared his thoughts on the recently concluded Miss Universe 2024 pageant, held in Mexico City.
Denmark’s Victoria Kjaer Theilvig was crowned Miss Universe 2024, but Boy expressed disappointment with the overall event. He felt the competition lacked excitement and criticized the new concept of awarding continental queens, including Miss Universe Philippines 2024 Chelsea Manalo, who was named Miss Universe Asia.
During the November 18 episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Boy said that this Miss Universe was not one of his favorites. He described it as “lacking sparkle” and mentioned that he was “a bit confused” by the changes in the gown presentations. He also questioned the purpose of the continental queen titles, wondering if they were meant to make the pageant more inclusive of different parts of the world, but he felt it wasn’t well thought out. Boy didn’t fully understand the idea behind these new titles and believed they complicated the event.
“I’ll be very honest, this was not one of my favorite Miss Universe. Parang kulang sa kinang,” Boy said. “Medyo naguluhan po ako ng kaunti. Even the presentation of the gown, medyo iniba nila,” he added.
Despite his concerns, Boy praised the pageant’s record-breaking 125 candidates and its focus on diversity and inclusion. He noted these were positive points but remained critical of how the event was presented. Boy’s comments showed his disappointment with how the pageant went, feeling it lacked the usual prestige and excitement.
In the end, while Boy was impressed with Victoria Kjaer Theilvig’s win, he was sad that Chelsea Manalo, who represented the Philippines, only made it to the Top 30. Boy’s thoughts sparked discussions about the new format and whether it achieved its goal. The 73rd Miss Universe pageant, while historic, left some fans and critics questioning the direction of the competition in the future.
