Duterte Legacy Continues: Grandson Files COC for Davao City Councilor
RODRIGO DUTERTE – Rigo Duterte II is the most recent member of the Duterte family to enter politics.
The newest member of the Duterte family to enter politics is Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, the grandson and namesake of the late President Rodrigo Duterte. By submitting his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Tuesday, Rigo extended his family’s long-standing political supremacy in the area by running for councilor in Davao City’s first district.
During the filing, Rigo was accompanied by his brother Omar, the Buhangin barangay captain, and his father, Representative Paolo Duterte. Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, which means “unity of the people of the city,” is the political party that supports Rigo’s candidacy. This party emphasizes the family’s long-standing political influence in Davao.
Thus far, Rigo is the only family member to officially file a COC for the upcoming elections. Paolo Duterte, the current representative of Davao City’s first congressional district, remains undecided about his political future. According to the report, he revealed that while his wife and children are urging him to retire from politics, the persistent attacks against his family make him reconsider his decision to seek reelection. Paolo intends to consult with his father and sister, Vice President Sara Duterte, before making a final choice.
Earlier, Sara Duterte shared that her brothers, Paolo and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, were both contemplating Senate bids, fueling speculation about the family’s potential roles in the 2025 midterm elections.
