Netizens Give Mixed Reactions to Zombie Movie ‘Outside’
OUTSIDE – The local zombie film released on Netflix on October 17 has sparked a diverse range of reactions from viewers.
Directed by Carlo Ledesma, this film is notable for being Netflix Philippines’ first original zombie movie. The cast features talented actors such as Sid Lucero, Beauty Gonzalez, Marco Masa, and others, who bring the story to life in a unique way.
Many viewers praised the movie for its impressive cinematography and the actors’ performances. They noted its originality, stating that it stands apart from typical zombie films, which often focus solely on survival against hordes of the undead. One viewer emphasized, “It’s is a Psychological Thriller movie, yan ang genre ng movie na to, kaya di naka focus sa survival nila sa zombies… It’s about mental health, how to overcome trauma.” Another viewer echoed this sentiment, appreciating the film’s unique narrative, saying, “In all fairness maganda to, maiba naman kwento hindi yung puro san nag mula yung zombie.”
However, not all feedback was positive. Some critics expressed disappointment, arguing that the film resembled a soap opera or family drama with a zombie backdrop. Comments such as, “Sayang oras. 20% Zombie 80% Family Problem. Dapat title nito “Inside”, since lagi naman sila nasa loob ng bahay,” highlighted their dissatisfaction. Some suggested that the title should have been “Inside,” pointing out that most of the film took place indoors, with family conflicts overshadowing the zombie theme. Others commented on the film’s pacing, with one viewer remarking, “Boring , maganda lang sa trailer 3/10.”
Despite the mixed opinions, some viewers acknowledged the film’s depth, asserting that it explores complex themes such as generational trauma and power dynamics. One viewer noted, “It’s not just a brainrot boring Zombie movie. It’s a nuanced psychological thriller that tackles generational traumas, abuse, power dynamics, and more. It’s one of a kind!.”
