Statement of Cong. LRay Villafuerte on Allegedly Vacationing in Siargao Amid Kristine’s Havoc
LRAY VILLAFUERTE – The congressman of the 2nd district of Camarines Sur issued a statement in response to criticism following their alleged vacation in Siargao while Severe Tropical Storm Kristine was wreaking havoc in their home province.
In a Facebook post, the father of Governor Luigi Villafuerte stressed the importance of working together during tough times. He condemned the spread of false information by their political opponents, who claimed that he and CamSur Gov. Luigi Villafuerte were on vacation in Siargao while their constituents were suffering from flooding. He stated that these accusations were untrue and meant to damage their reputation, pointing out that the people of Camarines Sur know the truth about their commitment to serving the community.
LRay Villafuerte clarified that the pictures circulating on social media, which allegedly showed them in Siargao, were taken before the storm hit and that everyone involved, including Sangguniang Kabataan officials, had returned to CamSur in time to help with the crisis. He labeled these accusations as old tactics used by their opponents to undermine their work.
Villafuerte noted that while his opponents were posting about flooding issues and asking for donations, he and his colleagues were actively sending rescue teams, providing relief supplies, and purchasing rubber boats to assist with the disaster response. He called on local mayors and barangay officials to also contribute from their disaster funds.
To combat the false information, LRay Villafuerte promised to share regular updates on their rescue and relief efforts to keep the public informed. He expressed frustration with the lies being spread and urged those spreading falsehoods to stop, warning them of possible consequences. He emphasized that their focus was on finding solutions rather than getting caught up in social media disputes and that he remains committed to demonstrating the truth through their ongoing efforts.
