Raquel Pempengco Feels Sorry for Jake Zyrus Anew
RAQUEL PEMPENGCO – The mother of former international singing sensation Charice Pempengco, now Jake Zyrus, shared emotional posts on Facebook, expressing regret over her child’s transformation.
Raquel reshared a throwback video of Charice’s performance as a finalist in the 2005 ABS-CBN singing competition “Little Big Star.” In the competition, Charice competed in the “big division” alongside actor-singer Sam Concepcion, who won first place, while Charice finished third. Although she didn’t win, this competition marked the beginning of Charice’s international success, leading to global recognition and collaborations with stars like Celine Dion and David Foster.
In her post, Raquel expressed lingering sentiments about the competition, feeling that Charice was “cheated” out of victory. In another post, she reposted a video from “Glee,” the American musical TV show where Charice played “Sunshine Corazon” in 2009. Raquel noted that Charice might have remained in the limelight if she had kept her original voice. She added that it’s not too late, believing there’s still hope for Charice’s talent to shine despite the changes in his identity and career.

Currently, Jake Zyrus is in the U.S. and has yet to reunite with his mother.
Meanwhile, Jake Zyrus, formerly known as Charice Pempengco, is a Filipino singer who gained international fame as a child prodigy with an extraordinary singing voice. Discovered on YouTube, Charice appeared on shows like “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and was mentored by music producer David Foster. Charice’s self-titled international album achieved success, peaking on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2017, Charice came out as a transgender man, adopting the name Jake Zyrus. Since then, Jake has undergone hormone therapy, which has significantly altered his voice.
