JOEY CHESTNUT – The hotdog eating contest champ has once again proven that he is the best hotdog eater by winning a recent contest with a record-breaking 83 hotdogs.

He surpassed Takeru Kobayashi from Japan, who ate 67 hotdogs. The contest was held on September 3, 2024, and was featured as part of Netflix’s Labor Day special, “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef,” which was streamed live.

Joey’s impressive 83 hotdogs set a new world record, breaking his previous record of 76 hotdogs from 2021. The competition allowed Joey and Takeru 10 minutes to eat as many hotdogs as possible. Joey, who is 40 years old, defeated Takeru, who is 46, in this latest face-off. Both are prominent figures in the hotdog-eating world and frequently participate in the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hotdog Eating Contest held annually at Coney Island, New York.

Takeru Kobayashi dominated the Nathan’s Famous contest from 2002 to 2007, but Joey took the title in 2008 and held it until 2023. In 2023, Joey was defeated after eating only 63 hotdogs, with poor weather conditions blamed for his subpar performance that year. Additionally, Joey was not allowed to participate in the 2024 Nathan’s Famous contest due to a contract with Impossible Foods, a company that makes plant-based meat. This contract led to a rule preventing endorsers of competing brands from participating in the contest.

Major League Eating (MLE), which organizes the contest, expressed disappointment over Joey’s decision to promote a rival brand. Despite not competing in Nathan’s Famous this year, Joey’s victory in the Netflix special earned him a prize of US$100,000 (PHP5,653,297.94). Joey acknowledged the competitive nature of his relationship with Takeru, noting that their rivalry drives both of them to perform at their best.
