The Robredo family is residing in Naga for decades already. The former Vice President’s late husband, former interior secretary Jesse Robredo, had served as the mayor of Naga for several years. The people in Naga love the simplicity of Jesse during his term.
Under the term then-President Noynoy Aquino, Jesse Robredo was appointed to be the head of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). Unfortunately, in 2012, he died in a plane crash along Masbate Bay on his way home.
In 2016, his widow, Leni Robredo, was urged to run as vice president and she won. However, she and former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte did not work together smoothly because of their differences in a lot of things. There were several instances when former PRRD and the former VP exchanged remarks.
Meanwhile, following their term, there were no more intense exchanges between the two (2). Former Vice Pres. Robredo even congratulated his daughter, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, for winning the 2022 vice presidential race.

Based on a report on GMA News, aside from Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Senator Bong Revilla and interior Sec. Benhur Abalos also visited former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo in her home in Naga. On the visit of the government officials, the former VP stressed that the visits were “politically neutral”.
According to Robredo, there are no political colors during Peñafrancia Festival and everyone who visits “Ina” is welcome in their residence. She stressed that it has been this way already since 1988 when her late husband became mayor of Naga.
“Lahat ng pumupunta para kay Ina ay welcome dito sa amin,” the former VP said.
Recently, the Liberal Party announced that former VP Leni Robredo will run for mayor in Naga in the 2025 Midterm Election. The said announcement was met by different reactions from the people.
