Manila to Provide PHP2,000 Cash Gift to Graduates of PLM and UdM

Graduates of PLM and UdM to Receive PHP2,000 Cash Gift from Manila City Government

CASH GIFT – The Manila city government has announced a PHP2,000 cash gift for graduating college students from two major local universities: Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and Universidad de Manila (UdM). This initiative is set to be implemented starting in the School Year 2023-2024, providing a financial boost to students completing their higher education.

The decision was formalized on August 29, 2024, when Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna approved City Council Ordinance 9068. This ordinance, introduced by Councilor Pamela Fugoso-Pascual and majority floor leader Councilor Ernesto C. Isip Jr., aims to assist graduates as they transition from academic life to the professional world. The PHP2,000 “Taas-Noo Manileño Graduation Gift” will be awarded to students from PLM and UdM who are finishing their degrees, offering them a valuable financial resource to support their early career expenses.

The initiative reflects a broader commitment by the Manila city government to invest in its young residents and enhance their opportunities for success. The City Council, under the leadership of Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto, passed the ordinance during a regular session held on August 27, 2024. Both PLM and UdM are overseen by the Commission on Higher Education and are supported by the Manila city government.

Mayor Lacuna emphasized that the cash gift is intended to help graduates with the financial challenges of starting their careers. She noted that this support is meant to ease the transition into the workforce and provide a meaningful contribution to the graduates’ efforts in finding employment. By offering this assistance, the city aims to acknowledge the hard work of its students and bolster their prospects for future success.

According to PEP.ph, this new program highlights Manila’s dedication to supporting its educational institutions and empowering its youth, reinforcing the city’s role in fostering growth and development among its younger generation.
