School Principal Hospitalized After Falling from Roof While Cleaning
A principal from Guinpanaan Elementary School in Moises Padilla is in critical condition after falling from the roof of a school building.
Brigada Eskwela is an annual nationwide program in the Philippines aimed at preparing public schools for the upcoming school year.
The program encourages teachers, parents, students, and local community members to come together and contribute their time and effort to clean and repair school facilities. This includes tasks such as painting classrooms, repairing broken furniture, and generally making the school environment ready for students.
On Sunday, July 28, 2024, Guinpanaan Elementary School principal was hospitalized after falling from the roof while cleaning before the opening of classes on Monday (July 29, 2024).
Ian Arnold Arnaez, the Public Information Officer for DepEd Negros Occidental Division, reported that Reynaldo Mojares, the principal, was at the school to check on the condition of the facilities after the Brigada Eskwela and preparations for the new school year.
He was accompanied by his wife, who is also a teacher, and other staff members.
According to initial information from DepEd, Mojares had already left the school with the other teachers before 5:00 p.m. However, he returned to the school to pick up his wife, who had stayed behind.
While waiting for her, Mojares noticed some leaves on the roof and decided to climb up to clean them off.
Unfortunately, while descending, he lost his grip on the ladder and fell, landing headfirst onto the concrete. Immediate assistance was provided by other teachers and staff from nearby schools. Mojares is now receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Bacolod City.
