NBI Arrests Man for Practicing Medicine for 20 Years Without a License
FAKE DOCTOR – A 61-year-old man, who has been providing medical services such as consultations, prescriptions, and even delivering babies for the past two decades, was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for practicing medicine without a license.
The NBI received information from a former staff member of the suspect confirming that he was not a licensed physician. The suspect, who has been pretending to be a doctor for 20 years, has faced numerous complaints and has a significant number of patients.
“Tumatanggap siya ng mga pasyente, nagbibigay siya ng mga medical advice. Tapos nagrereseta siya at nagtitinda din siya ng gamot dun sa kanyang klinika,” NBI Public Corruption Division Chief Atty. Cath Nolasco-Illescas said.
Despite attempts to obtain an on-camera statement from the suspect, he declined. However, in a conversation with GMA News, he admitted to taking the Medical Licensure Examination twice but failing both times. He claimed that he intended to help people.
According to Atty. Cath Nolasco-Illescas, Chief of the NBI Public Corruption Division, the suspect is facing multiple charges, including estafa for pretending to be a doctor without a license. They also recommended charging him with illegal practice of medicine under the Medical Act and violating the Philippine Pharmacy Act for selling medication at his clinic.
“Kakasuhan namin siya ng estafa, dahil nga nagpapanggap siya ng doktor kahit na hindi naman siya lesinsyadong doktor. Nagrekomenda rin kami na kasuhan siya ng illegal practice of medicine under the Medical Act,” the NBI official said. “Nagrekomenda din kami, dahil sa pagtitinda niya gn gamot sa kanyang klinika, nagrekomenda rin kami na kasuhan siya under the Philippine Pharmacy Act,” she added.
