PBBM is Interested in Pares
PBBM – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has shown a keen interest in trying the popular pares meals available in Metro Manila.
In his weekly vlog, which focused on Filipino cuisine, Marcos mentioned his curiosity about these well-liked pares spots that have attracted both regular patrons and celebrities alike, though he did not mention any specific locations. “May nagba-viral ngayon na mga paresan na mukhang masasarap. Tingnan nga natin at masubukan natin,” he said.
Marcos also used this platform to encourage support for Filipino products and businesses, especially highlighting the efforts of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who have ventured into business. He emphasized the importance of promoting Filipino food to international friends and inviting them to the Philippines to experience more of the local cuisine firsthand.
In addition to advocating for support for local food and products, President Marcos pointed out that certain dishes from his home region of Ilocos Norte, such as “dinardaraan” (the local version of dinuguan), “bagnet,” “empanada,” “miki,” and grilled meats and fish, are deserving of international recognition, such as Michelin stars.
Meanwhile, Diwata Pares Overload, located in Pasay City within Metro Manila, stands out as one of the area’s favorite pares restaurants. The owner, Deo Jarito Balbuena, widely recognized as Diwata, has a diverse background with experiences as a construction worker, beautician, small store operator, and even a contestant on “It’s Showtime’s” Miss Q&A segment before launching his food stall. He started by offering hearty servings of pares.
Now, Diwata has become a hit on social media, known for his friendly demeanor and signature dishes. His restaurant draws large crowds daily, with customers lining up for hours to enjoy his generous pares meals, which include unlimited servings of rice and soup plus a soft drink, all for only P100. Besides his famed overload pares, Diwata also serves popular items like barbecue and ample portions of his celebrated fried ‘siken,’ making his eatery a must-visit for those seeking satisfying and affordable meals in the region.
