ANTONETTE GAIL – The partner of social media influencer Whamos Cruz was criticized for dressing up as Mary for her “Piliin mo ang Pilipinas” entry.
Antonette dressed up in a costume inspired by Mary, the mother of Jesus. However, her choice of costume did not sit well with everyone, particularly Catholic devotees who felt it was disrespectful.
Netizens criticized Antonette Gail for using a saintly image inappropriately in her content. One questioned the mismatch between the saintly image and Antonette’s personality, urging honesty and self-respect. Another netizen sarcastically labeled her as the “patron of gamblers,” while Glen pointed out the inappropriateness of her costume, noting that Mama Mary, whom she was emulating, did not alter her body or dance indecently. Amari warned that such worldliness leads only to further inappropriate displays.
In addition to her “Piliin mo ang Pilipinas” entry, Antonette also faced backlash for her Asoka costume, accused of cultural appropriation. Some netizens felt that Antonette wore an Indian bridal dress inappropriately. As of this writing, Antonette has not yet responded to the criticisms she has received.
Earlier, Whamos Cruz, the partner of Antonette Gail, was called out by a videographer named Jak Seventy-Three for his “Piliin mo ang Pilipinas” entry. The videographer claimed that the social media personality used some of his clips without permission.
However, instead of apologizing, Whamos Cruz defended himself, stating, “Hindi po ako ‘yung nag-install ng video na ‘yun. Ang nag-install po nung video na ‘yun sa entry ko is ‘yung editor ko….Ako na po ‘yung humihingi ng pasensya sa editor ko sa nangyari.” He further justified, “Ginamit naman po ‘yun sa tamang paraan, hindi naman po sa maling paraan, hindi naman po sa pangit na video ‘yung pinasukan nung video niyo po.”
