Cristy Fermin Responds to the Cyber Libel Case Filed Against Her by Sharon Cuneta and Kiko Pangilinan
CRISTY FERMIN – The entertainment columnist reacted to the cyber libel case filed against her by Megastar Sharon Cuneta and former Senator Kiko Pangilinan.
Sharon Cuneta and her husband, former Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, have filed cyber libel charges against Cristy Fermin at the Makati City Prosecutors Office. The charges stem from Fermin’s alleged “baseless and malicious statements” about the couple’s personal and family life, with incidents noted from 2023 and early 2024.
The couple’s legal team argued that Fermin’s slanderous remarks are not protected by free speech and carry legal consequences. Despite being public figures, Cuneta and Pangilinan assert their right to privacy and protection from defamation. Their decision to take legal action was prompted by Fermin’s continuous derogatory comments about their family, which they had previously chosen to ignore.
In the latest episode of “Cristy Ferminute” on Friday, May 10, Cristy reacted to the cyber libel case filed against her by Megastar Sharon Cuneta and former Senator Kiko Pangilinan.
“Kapag ikaw ay bangkero, mayroong pagkakataon na pwede kang malunod. Kapag ikaw ay pulis, pwede kang makabaril at ikaw ay maaksidenteng mabaril. Kapag ikaw ay nasa ganyang mga linya katulad naming mga mamamahayag, naku, teritoryal po ang mga ganitong kaso. ‘Yong libel case, cybel libel,” she said.
“‘Yon lamang po ‘yon. Pero ano, ha, pataas nang pataas ang mga lebel, ha. Talagang tumataas ang lebel ng demandahan. From Sarah Lahbati to Bea Alonzo, Sharon Cuneta na ang kasunod. Sino po kaya ang susunod? Si Julia Roberts na?” she continued.
Cristy Fermin added: “Basta, naiintindihan natin kung saan sila nagmumula, kung saan nila nanggagaling. Wala pa po akong masasabi. Wala pa kaming impormasyon na tinatanggap. Basta naiintindihan natin ito.”
Previously, actress Bea Alonzo filed a cyber libel complaint against Fermin and Ogie Diaz.
