Senator Bato dela Rosa was among those very emotional during Zubiri’s valedictory speech
BATO DELA ROSA – The senator became emotional and cried on the shoulder of Audrey Tan-Zubiri, the wife of ousted Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, during Zubiri’s valedictory speech.
In a Facebook post, Dela Rosa shared photos with fellow senators and expressed his gratitude for Zubiri’s leadership. Dela Rosa highlighted the emotional nature of Zubiri’s final address as Senate President, which took place amidst a leadership change in the Senate on Monday. Despite his removal, Zubiri emphasized his commitment to maintaining the Senate’s independence and continuing to advocate for the rights and welfare of the Filipino people.
Audrey Tan-Zubiri was also visibly emotional over her husband’s ousting. In his post, Dela Rosa saluted Zubiri for his leadership and unwavering service to the nation. He reiterated Zubiri’s dedication to fighting for the Senate as a free institution and his resolve to support the people’s welfare.
“Puno ng pasasalamat at naging madamdamin ang naging huling mensahe ni Senator Migz Zubiri sa kanyang pagbaba sa posisyon bilang Senate President sa gitna ng kanyang valedictory speech para sa pagpapalit liderato ng Senado ngayong Lunes,” Bato dela Rosa said.
“Sa kabila nito, binigyang diin ng senador ang pagsisikap na ipaglaban ang Senado bilang isang malayang institusyon at nanindigan na ipagpapatuloy ang pagsulong ng karapatan at pangangalaga sa kapakanan ng taumbayan,” he added.
The leadership change saw Senator Francis Escudero replace Zubiri as the new Senate President. This transition marks a significant shift in the Senate’s leadership dynamics, with Dela Rosa and others expressing deep respect and appreciation for Zubiri’s contributions during his tenure. “Sa ating Senate President Migz Zubiri, isang pagsaludo sa inyong liderato at walang sawang serbisyo sa bawat Pilipino!” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Juan Miguel “Migz” Fernandez Zubiri was the 24th Senate President of the Philippines from July 25, 2022, to May 20, 2024. He is currently in his third term in the Senate, first serving from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2016 to 2022. He previously served as the Senate Majority Leader from 2008 to 2010 and 2018 to 2022 and was the representative of Bukidnon’s 3rd district from 1998 to 2007.
