After Killua, netizens call for justice for another slain dog, Erika
JUSTICE FOR ERIKA – Netizens are crying out for justice again, but this time for Erika, the innocent dog killed by a furious Korean.
The killing of innocent dogs has reignited public concern about animal welfare and the need for action to protect animals from harm. This came following the case of Killua, an adorable golden retriever killed and placed inside a sack.
The dog was attacked by a man identified as Anthony Solares, who claimed he was defending his child from a perceived threat. However, Killua’s owner, Vina Rachelle, disputed this, stating that Killua likely fell from their gate and was not intentionally aggressive. Solares placed the dog in a sack after killing it. He defended his actions on social media but later expressed remorse.
Another case of animal cruelty is the incident involving a dog named Erika. Last week, a Korean national, bitten by a stray dog, was arrested in Malate, Manila, after fatally stabbing a pet dog named Ericka. The incident occurred after he sought help for his wound at a grill house where Ericka was present. The suspect, identified as Jung Seong Ho, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and attacked Ericka and another stray dog, mistakenly targeting the wrong animal. He was arrested by the Remedios Police Community Precinct and is facing charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 and malicious mischief.
After #JusticeforKillua trended on the microblogging site, X (formerly known as Twitter), #JusticeForErika became one of the trending topics on the said platform with more than 14K posts as of press time. Like what happened to Killua, netizens were also seeking justice for what happened to Erika.
Some netizens rally to stop animal cruelty and respect the lives of animals.
