LEREN MAE BAUTISTA – The councilor faced backlash due to her Women’s Month greeting, which went viral online. The greeting featured a tarpaulin where she stood out in color among portraits of other notable women, giving the impression that the rest were deceased.
Leren Mae Bautista is a famous personality known for her accomplishments in modeling, beauty pageants, and politics. She has won several prestigious titles in beauty pageants, including Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific International 2015 and Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2019.
Bautista has represented the Philippines in international pageants such as Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International 2015 and The Miss Globe 2019, where she achieved significant success. Additionally, she is involved in politics and currently holds a position as a member of the Los Baños Municipal Council, having been elected in 2022 under the Bigkis Pinoy party.
Recently, Councilor Leren Mae Bautista faced criticism for her Women’s Month greeting, which circulated online. The greeting featured a tarpaulin where she was the only one shown in color among portraits of notable women, giving the impression that the others were deceased.
Notable figures in the tarpaulin include Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Olympic Gold Medalist Hidilyn Diaz, legendary tattoo artist Apo Whang-Od, National Hero Melchora Aquino and former Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.
The councilor received backlash for her actions, with netizens accusing her of seeking attention and disrespecting the legacy of the women depicted. Some questioned her level of achievement compared to the women featured.
“The audacity of this girl… said who that you are in the level of these great women? Seriously? Have your legal team got approval from these great women to be on your tarpaulin? Copyright teh? Pag hindi transparent, hindi empowering yan,” commented one netizen.
Despite the criticism, Bautista has not publicly responded to the controversy.
