Find Out Why Drag Performer Pura Luka Vega Arrested Again

PURA LUKA VEGA – In this article, you will know the reason why Drag artist Pura Luka Vega was arrested again.

Pura Luka Vega, also known as Amadeus Fernando Pagente and using they/them pronouns, experienced a subsequent arrest by the Manila Police District on February 29, just three days after posting a P720,000 bail for six alleged violations related to immoral doctrines, obscene publications, exhibitions, and indecent shows.

DZME News first reported the arrest, which was later confirmed by Rod Singh, the director of “Drag Den Philippines.” Singh conveyed that the arrest was prompted by a Quezon City Court’s warrant for three counts of the same charges.

The bail amount of P720,000 was connected to a case involving six violations of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code (addressing immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibitions, and indecent shows). This case was filed before the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) under Section 6 of R.A. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) following a complaint from the Kapisanan ng mga Social Media Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, which the Pasay City prosecutor found to have partial merit.

The recent arrest on Thursday was based on a warrant from the Quezon City RTC, involving three counts of the same charges filed by three churches affiliated with the Philippines For Jesus Movement. This warrant resulted in Pura Luka’s arrest in October of the previous year. Rod Singh mentioned that Pura Luka needs P360,000 for temporary release.

Before the arrest, Pura Luka, who celebrated their 34th birthday on February 27, had plans to participate in a Drag Den show on Thursday night. The arrest was instigated by a complaint from the Philippines for Jesus Movement (PJM), with the recommended bail for release set at P360,000.

On February 26, Pura Luka Vega secured bail amounting to P720,000 for six alleged violations of Article 201. The filmmaker explained that this move followed the Pasay City prosecutor’s acknowledgment of “partial merit” in the complaint supported by the Kapisanan ng mga Social Media Broadcaster ng Pilipinas.

Earlier, Pura Luka faced a complaint from PJM in July 2023, shortly after their “Ama Namin” video gained widespread attention on social media, constituting a violation of Article 201. Pura Luka was released on bail in October 2023, during which, at a drag show appearance, they performed a lip-sync rendition of Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s “The Prayer” with their mother, emphasizing the artistic nature of their drag performance.
