Impressive progress of Brandy Ayala since being rescued
BRANDY AYALA – The former actress has shown impressive progress since being rescued by a team led by Lito Gruet, a former actor and model.
In 2023, Brandy’s declining mental health condition attracted media attention, with many believing her situation was beyond repair. However, Lito’s Battle Against Ignorance Foundation (BAI) stepped in, taking Brandy to Safehaven Recovery Village in Cebu City, a well-known rehabilitation center.
Despite years without help, Brandy demonstrated significant improvement within a few weeks of arriving at the facility, partly due to her own determination. Lito emphasized the foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting Brandy’s needs and caring for others like her. He urged continued backing from the community to maintain their efforts in helping neglected, abandoned, and suffering individuals at the facility.
“For now she is adjusting to her new environment. She is now staying at Safehaven Recovery Village where she will be sheltered, fed, treated, cared for, and loved,” said Lito. “BAI Foundation will continue to support her with all her needs. BAI Foundation is here to help the neglected, the abandoned, the lonely, broken, wounded, and hurting and we need your support to be able to sustain loving and caring for all of those we have rescued who live in the facility,” he added.
Meanwhile, Brandy, whose real name is Remedios Estrada, gained fame in the 1980s as one of the “Liquor Beauties” and was discovered by the controversial talent manager Rey dela Cruz. She appeared in films such as “Panganib bawat sandali ng ligaya” (1986), “Mababangis na bulaklak” (1986), and “S.W.A.K. (Samahang Walang Atrasan sa Kalaban)” (1985).
However, after nearly two decades, Brandy’s situation took a downturn, and she became a subject on television talk shows and public service programs for wandering in Divisoria, begging for food. Brandy’s struggles paralleled those of Berta, a well-known beggar in Cebu City who was formerly a teacher. Berta received online support after gaining recognition on social media and is now back to normalcy, helping others dealing with mental health challenges like hers.
