TAYLOR SWIFT – The award-winning singer-songwriter received criticism from netizens for allegedly ignoring Celine Dion during the Grammy Awards.
Dion, a highly acclaimed singer, presented Swift with the Album of the Year award, marking Swift’s historic fourth win in this category. However, a circulating online video suggested that Swift seemed to ignore Dion, not making eye contact or acknowledging her presence, which goes against the customary etiquette of recognizing the award presenter.
People on social media expressed their disappointment and labeled Swift’s behavior as disrespectful, especially considering Dion’s rare appearance amid her battle with stiff person syndrome. One user disapproved of Swift for hugging everyone on stage except Dion, describing her actions as if she treated Dion like a “hat-check girl.”
“My biggest disappointment of the Grammys was Taylor Swift winning Album of the year and hugging all of her people but taking the trophy from Celine Dion as if she was the hat-check girl, and not seeming to realize how very amazing it was that Celine was standing there at all,” Beverly Smith, an X user wrote.
The criticism led Swift’s team to share a photo of Swift with Dion after the event. Nevertheless, many users dismissed it as a “PR stunt” and argued that it was too late to erase the perceived disregard displayed by Swift on stage.
Netizens highlighted that Swift, an experienced professional with multiple Grammy wins, should have shown more respect for a living legend like Celine Dion. Some mentioned Dion’s past acknowledgments of Diana Ross and Sting when they presented her with the same award 27 years ago, questioning why Swift couldn’t do the same.
The incident sparked conversations about Swift’s behavior and whether her actions were appropriate, considering her industry experience and the significance of the moment. Critics argued that despite Swift celebrating her 13th Grammy win and likely expecting the award, there was no excuse for her apparent disregard for a music icon like Celine Dion.
