MTRCB Suspends Private Convos with Doc Rica
PRIVATE CONVOS WITH DOC RICA – A show that premiered on TV5 has been suspended by the Movie and Television Review Classification Board (MTRCB).
On January 30, 2024, the MTRCB issued a statement asserting that the TV show ‘Private Convos with Doc Rica’ failed to adhere to the regulations set by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board. Specifically, the agency pointed out violations of Section 3 of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and Sections 2, Article 4, and Section 8, Article 5 of its Implementing Rules and Regulations.
The agency highlighted that the TV program discussed mature topics and used inappropriate language, deemed unsuitable for public consumption.
MTRCB clarified that their response was prompted by complaints filed by several parents against the show. Moreover, they emphasized that the program was aired during Child-Viewing hours.
MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto strongly condemned any clear violations of the law, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with the freedom of broadcast. She urged broadcasters and content creators to exercise caution and responsibility in their creative processes, recognizing the influence of on-screen content.
“Mariin nating kinokondena ang anumang malinaw na paglabag sa batas. Kaakibat ng malayang pag brodcast ng reponsibilidad. Hinihiling namin sa mga broadkaster at content creators na maging maingat at responsable sa kanilang mga proseso ng paglikha, na kumiklala sa implunwesya ng on-screen content,” MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto said.
In contrast, Dr. Rica Cruz expressed surprise at MTRCB’s decision. Despite not being broadcast on television, ‘Private Convos with Doc Rica’ continued to be available for streaming on various media platforms.
Meanwhile, the MTRCB is a government agency in the Philippines responsible for reviewing and classifying movies, television programs, and other audio-visual materials to ensure they adhere to established content standards and regulations. The MTRCB aims to protect viewers, especially children, from potentially harmful or inappropriate content and to promote responsible media broadcasting in the country.
