In Tarlac, a man died after being bitten by a cobra while using the bathroom
TARLAC – A 27-year-old man in Paniqui succumbed to a cobra bite while using the bathroom.
The man was allegedly bitten on the foot while urinating in the bathroom. Subsequently, he was hurried to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
The distressed family sought the assistance of a snake catcher who successfully located a cobra believed to be responsible for the fatal snakebite. The cobra was captured and placed in a sack, after which grieving residents resorted to stoning the venomous reptile to death.
The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) emphasized that, by law, the killing of wildlife animals like cobras is strictly prohibited except in emergency situations.
Meanwhile, the speed at which a cobra bite can cause death varies depending on factors such as the species of cobra, the amount of venom injected, the size and health of the victim, and the proximity of medical treatment. Cobras inject venom through their fangs, and the venom can affect the nervous system, causing respiratory failure or cardiac arrest.
In some cases, death can occur relatively quickly, within a few hours, if the envenomation is severe and immediate medical intervention is not available. However, not all cobra bites are fatal, and the time it takes for symptoms to appear can vary.
It’s crucial to note that prompt medical attention is essential if someone is bitten by a venomous snake, including a cobra. Antivenom is the primary treatment for snakebite envenomation, and getting medical help as soon as possible increases the chances of a successful recovery. Trying to suck out the venom, cutting the wound, or using tourniquets are not recommended and can worsen the situation. If you encounter a venomous snake, it’s best to stay away and seek professional assistance if necessary.
