69-Year-Old Jocelyn Cubales to Compete in Miss Universe Philippines-Quezon City
JOCELYN CUBALES – A 69-year-old fashion designer is set to compete against 14 other candidates in this year’s Miss Universe Philippines – Quezon City (MUPHQC).
Jocelyn Cubales and the other candidates were introduced through a series of Facebook posts by MUPHQC. Based on her profile, she believes that the younger generation can learn valuable lessons from her life experiences, particularly emphasizing grit. “Meet Jocelyn Cubales. At 69 years old, she believes that the younger generation can learn a lot from her life experiences, most especially grit. See her give light to the universe!” it noted.
But Jocelyn is not a neophyte in the world of pageantry. In 2017, she joined Mrs. South Asia for Mrs. Universe, where she brought home the special award “Mother of the Universe” for her advocacy and charity works dedicated to children and women in the country. She was the first Filipina to compete in the said pageant.
Jocelyn Cubales has earned the support of netizens as she tries her luck to win the MUPHQC. One netizen quipped, “Pasok na to sa Top 5 kasi nasa priority lane!” Another netizen commented, “This had me gagging. So refreshing to see beauty regardless of age. Makes me cry how far we’ve come as a society. Kudos to the organizers!!!”
Meanwhile, the coronation night for MUPHQC is scheduled to take place on February 5. The winner of this competition will represent Quezon City in the Miss Universe Philippines (MUPH) pageant this year. It’s worth recalling that in September of the previous year, the Miss Universe Organization announced the removal of the age restriction starting in 2024. Additionally, the owner of the organization, Anne Jakrajutatip, confirmed last year that the international pageant is now open to candidates who are married, divorced, or pregnant.
It’s noteworthy that last year’s representative from Quezon City, Mary Eileen Gonzales, was one of the first candidates to compete as a mother in MUPH.
