Fast-Food Worker Who Has Never Been Absent for 27 Years Receives Donation Worth P25.7M

Fast-Food Worker Achieves Dream Home with Netizen Support and Generous Donations

KEVIN FORD – The fast-food worker, who remained absent-free for nearly three decades, achieved his dream of building a house through hard work and loyalty. Surprisingly, it wasn’t his employer but the netizens who fell for his story that made his dream house a reality.

In June 2022, a video post by Kevin Ford, a Burger King employee in the U.S., went viral. In the short video, Kevin shared the contents of a gift bag from his employer after 27 years of service. Kevin never missed a day of work, not even due to illness. The gift bag contained a movie ticket, two pens, a pack of Reese’s chocolate, and a Starbucks cup.

While Kevin clarified in an interview that he wasn’t mocking the gifts from his employer, netizens were clearly upset. The video garnered sympathy for the loyal worker, with netizens expressing that he deserved better.

In response, Kevin’s daughter, Seryna Ford, created a GoFundMe account, a well-known American crowdfunding service, to gather donations. Seryna described her father’s journey, starting as a single father supporting two children and eventually expanding the family after remarriage. Kevin’s income from his fast-food job supported the education of his four children. Seryna explained, “My dad continues to work there because though he does look young, he is coming up on retirement age and leaving would cost him his retirement.”

Touched by Kevin’s story, many people contributed to the fund. Over a year and a half, Kevin received donations exceeding $450,000, including $5,000 (PHP281,000) from Hollywood comedian and actor David Spade.

The generous donations enabled Kevin to fulfill his dream of building a house near the fast-food branch where he worked. Kevin sees his life’s journey as proof that there is still goodness in the world. “When they tell you there is no hope for humanity in the world, don’t believe them… Hold me up as an example because people are beautiful,” he expressed in an interview.
