Kris Bernal Reveals She Was Diagnosed With Postpartum Anxiety

KRIS BERNAL – The actress recently revealed that she was diagnosed with postpartum anxiety after giving birth to her first child.

It can be recalled that Kris and her husband Perry Choi welcomed baby Hailee Lucca in August 2023.

Kris appeared on Tuesday’s episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” where she opened up about being a first-time mom to her daughter and about postpartum anxiety diagnosis.

The actress shared in an interview with Boy Abunda that she didn’t expect motherhood to be that difficult. According to the actress, many changes happened to her since she became a mom.

Kris said that she was enjoying the whole time being pregnant but she didn’t know how hard it was when she gave birth. She also shared that she experienced crying spells and not having enough time for herself “para magsuklay, kumain, maligo — yung skin care ko, wala na, nakalimutan ko na”.

The actress shared that she gave birth through caesarian section, making her recovery longer and more difficult.

She also said that she calls her daughter an “easy baby”, but having to go through changes was what made motherhood difficult for her. According to her, she feels “bagong tao ako” as she can no longer recognize her old self.

I was diagnosed with postpartum anxiety kasi nahirapan talaga ako mag-adjust pero so far it’s getting better,” she said. “This doesn’t mean I’m not grateful. Na hindi ko gusto ‘tong journey ko. Ito ang pinakamagandang nangyari sa buhay ko.

The actress shared that a woman willing to do everything and will also sacrifice everything when she becomes a mother. She also said that she never thought she was that strong.

Postpartum anxiety, according to Cleveland Clinic, is when a new mom experiences severe anxiety that “are often out of control and take over your thoughts” after having a baby or becoming a parent.
