In the Philippines, one of the giant state-run agencies that the people can turn to for different kinds of financial assistance is the Department of Social Welfare and Development. More popularly called DSWD, it has launched several programs that benefit the poor.
The DSWD programs include the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations or the AICS. Under it, there are medical assistance, funeral assistance, educational assistance, and food assistance among the many aid provided by the program for the indigents and the underprivileged individuals.

- Referral Letter from the local government
- any document that proves that the person is stranded or cannot leave a certain place
- For patients and their authorized representative, submit any document that proves that the beneficiary is currently confined at a hospital such as a Medicsal Abstract or Certificate
To apply, submit your requirements for DSWD Food Assistance to a branch of the government agency in your city or province. The state entity reminds the public that submitting fake documents have corresponding penalties or actions based on the legal proceedings.
DSWD also warned the public most especially those who are processing an assistance application that it has not authorized anyone to make deductions from the assistance that it extends to its beneficiaries. Also, no authorized or unauthorized person is allowed to implement charges in processing the application.
