Gloria Diaz speaks on the Miss Universe’s quest of Michelle Dee
GLORIA DIAZ – The Miss Universe 1969 believes that Michelle Dee, the country’s representative in the beauty pageant, has a significant chance of making it to the Top 5.
In her interview on “Gising Pilipinas” on TeleRadyo Serbisyo on Friday, November 17, she shared her fearless forecast about Michelle’s journey. “Hindi ko pa talaga alam, the day itself will show. Hindi ko alam talaga honestly. Ako I always hope for our Miss Philippines to be in the Top 5. Top 5 ‘yan, Top 5 kasi they have to have a representative from Asia,” Gloria said.
She continued, “Usually Miss USA comes in among the Top 15 or the Top 10. And 100% we get something from South America, Central America, may blonde siyempre mayroon ding itim, ganun ‘yon.”
According to Gloria, beauty pageants are now a “business.” “This is business and luck, to quote that. We won’t choose someone who is not marketable. Michelle is very popular,” said Miss Universe 1969.
Gloria Diaz said that luck plays a big role in winning beauty pageants. She believes that it’s not just about being smart or beautiful; luck matters too. She compared a current contestant, Michelle Dee, to her favorite co-beauty queen, Melanie Marquez. Even though Michelle got a 7 or 8 out of 10, Gloria thinks she has a good chance because beauty contests depend on personal opinions.
Gloria also talked about her own experience in Miss Universe. She admitted that she wasn’t seen as the most beautiful back then. She said luck and people’s different preferences are still important in choosing winners. Gloria mentioned how beauty pageants have changed over time. Now, they focus more on being sexy and controversial. She thinks this change might be influenced by new owners. In the end, Gloria Diaz wants people to understand that luck and different ideas of beauty are important factors in today’s beauty competitions.
