PNP on Undas 2023: “Normally po kapag ganitong malaki iyong volume ng mga tao ay theft, salisi, at physical injury”
UNDAS 2023 – The Philippine National Police (PNP) warned the public against common crimes during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
On Tuesday, PNP Spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo was asked at a news conference about the common crimes during All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. Fajardo said that the common crimes are theft, salisi, and physical injury when there’s a huge volume of people like during the observance of Undas.
“Normally po kapag ganitong malaki iyong volume ng mga tao ay theft, salisi, at physical injury,” she said.
The PNP official advised the public to take care of their belongings when traveling and visiting cemeteries. Also, she discouraged the public from bringing big amounts of money.
According to Fajardo, mobile phones and gadgets should not be placed inside back pockets because pick-pockets may steal those items in the middle of huge crowds. She added that liquor has been prohibited in some areas in order to avoid heated arguments that could lead to physical assaults during the observance of Undas.
In addition, Fajardo reminded the public of the common prohibited items in cemeteries. She also discouraged senior citizens, pregnant women, and children from visiting cemeteries for their safety.
On Monday, the Department of Health (DOH) urged the public not to bring their small children to cemeteries during the observance of Undas.
Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa said in a statement on Monday that children may get COVID-19 and other diseases because of the expected large crowds in cemeteries as well as the weather.
