Introducing Jeanne Nicci Orcena
JEANNE NICCI ORCENA – The 23-year-old Miss Universe Philippines 2022 candidate from Tagum, Davao Del Norte, has not only shone in the beauty pageant world but has also excelled academically, achieving top honors in the Medical Technologists Licensure Examination.
Nicci graduated from Tagum Doctors College, Inc. on May 30, 2023, with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science, holding the distinction of class valedictorian and magna cum laude. Her remarkable accomplishment extended to the August 2023 Medical Technologists Licensure Examination, where she secured a remarkable 92.2 percent rating, earning her a spot in the Top 5.
Despite initially aspiring to study Microbiology, Nicci encountered a lack of institutions near her home in Davao del Norte offering the course. This led her to the discovery that Medical Technology was closely aligned with her scientific interests.
Throughout her college journey, Jeanne Nicci Orcena faced the formidable challenge of balancing work and academics. The need to cover her daily expenses drove her to take on roles as a public speaking and modeling coach, engaging in activities such as judging beauty pageants and hosting events. The resulting juggling act between work and studies was taxing, further compounded by health issues that adversely impacted her grades.
Nevertheless, Nicci’s determination and understanding of her family’s financial limitations pushed her to persist. Her parents provided unwavering support, with her father diligently monitoring her studies and making personal sacrifices. Her mother stood by her side during late-night study sessions, offering both companionship and assistance.
The road to success was fraught with challenges during her board exam review. Nicci initially felt unprepared, with pre-board exam scores falling below the expected grade. The board exam presented unexpected questions related to real-world applications and laboratory settings, further adding to the stress. Given her limited review time, she questioned her ability to excel in the exam.
However, Nicci’s unwavering diligence bore fruit when she discovered her name among the successful candidates. Her joy and relief were palpable, and she expressed gratitude for completing her journey successfully, attributing her achievement to divine guidance.
At present, Jeanne Nicci Orcena works at her alma mater as a teacher in the Medical Laboratory Science department, fulfilling her responsibilities as a President’s Scholar by giving back to the institution. She also has aspirations to pursue a medical degree in the future.
