Kiosk Owners Near Bacolod’s Halandumon Tower Complain About Group Playing “Praise and Worship” Songs

Complain about the group playing “praise and worship” songs near Bacolod’s Halandumon Tower kiosk owners

MASSKARA FESTIVAL – Kiosk owners located near Halandumon Tower in Bacolod City have raised complaints regarding a group playing “praise and worship” songs.

The owners of 25 kiosks located on Gonzaga St. and Gatuslao St. near Halandumon Tower in Bacolod City Public Plaza have raised complaints because a group of Born Again Christians has set up a stage near their location to play praise and worship songs.

In an interview with Radyo Bandera, Joy, one of the kiosk owners, expressed her concern about how this situation affects their rental business, especially their income. According to her, potential customers are discouraged from entering their premises as they feel uncomfortable drinking alcoholic beverages while religious songs are being played or performed.

Joy stated that the group initiates their performances, similar to acoustic band performances and prayers, from 4 in the afternoon until 9 in the evening. After their performances, religious songs are played until midnight.

Joy’s plea to the organizers is that they limit the playing of praise and worship songs only until 9 in the evening, so as not to deter customers from entering their establishments. She and other kiosk owners are calling on the Yuhum Foundation to consider their complaint.

In an interview, the staff of Bacolod House of Prayer, together with various Born Again churches in the city, stated that the program they are calling “Rejoice Bacolod” is ongoing and will run until October 22, 2023. Apparently, the Yuhum Foundation, which is the organizer of the MassKara Festival, has yet to respond to the complaint.

The MassKara Festival is a vibrant and world-renowned annual festival celebrated in Bacolod City, the capital of Negros Occidental in the Philippines. The festival is characterized by its colorful masks, street dancing, lively music, and a joyful atmosphere.
