Janella Salvador: “Drag is not a crime!”
JANELLA SALVADOR – The actress-singer expressed her support for the controversial drag artist Pura Luka Vega, who was recently arrested by the police.
On her Instagram story last Friday, October 6, Janella shared a link to a donation drive organized by several drag queens to help Pura. In the said post, Janella also included the message “Drag is not a crime!” and the hashtag #FREEPURALUKAVEGA.
It can be recalled that Pura was arrested at his home in Sta. Cruz, Manila last Wednesday, October 4, in connection with his controversial “Ama Namin” performance. Reportedly, Pura needs around ₱72,000 for bail, and he is currently detained at the MPD Sta. Cruz police station. In response, fellow drag queens of Pura immediately launched a donation drive to assist him in posting bail and covering other expenses related to his case.
Drag Den Philippines showrunner Rod Singh provided an update on the donation drive, stating that as of Friday noon, October 6, they had received donations totaling ₱552,899.22. Aside from Janella Salvador, singer-songwriter Ice Seguerra has also shown support for Pura Luka Vega.
Meanwhile, Janella Maxine Desiderio Salvador, born on March 30, 1998, is a renowned Filipino actress and singer known for her versatile talents in the entertainment industry. She made her debut in the hit morning drama series “Be Careful with My Heart” from 2012 to 2014, gaining recognition for her acting skills. Throughout her career, Janella has taken on leading roles in various TV series and movies, showcasing her versatility and charm.
Her journey into the world of entertainment started at a young age, influenced by her parents’ passion for performing arts. In 2008 and 2009, she represented the Philippines in a world trade fair in Seoul, Korea. Her stage debut came in the form of a lead role in the school musical “Paul!
