ICE SEGUERRA – The singer turned to social media wherein he reacted to the arrest of drag artist Pura Luka Vega.

Pura Luka Vega, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente, was arrested in connection with his controversial performance of a remix of the “Ama Namin” (Our Father) while wearing a costume inspired by the Black Nazarene. Pura is facing charges filed by devotees of the Black Nazarene, known as Hijos del Nazareno, who allege that his performance violated Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code, claiming it attacked their religious beliefs. The bail for Pura’s case has been set at P72,000.

One of those who reacted to the arrest of Pura Luka Vega is singer Ice Seguerra. He took to Facebook to express his opinion on the issue. According to Ice Seguerra, it goes to show that the laws in the Philippines are very old-fashioned. The singer noted that it’s easy to take legal action against someone who offends religious beliefs, meanwhile, LGBTQIA individuals don’t have legal protection. They often lose their jobs, get hurt, or even killed, mostly because of their religion.

The singer is upset that when people’s beliefs are hurt, they react strongly and quickly take legal action. But when LGBTQIA individuals lose their livelihood, rights, and dignity due to discrimination, it seems like society doesn’t care much, and they’re expected to just accept it.

Ice Seguerra is calling out lawmakers and asking where the idea of separating religion from government has gone. He’s questioning why lawmakers, who are supposed to make laws for everyone, aren’t addressing these issues. Here’s his post:
