A basketball player from Alabama passes away after collapsing on the court
CALEB WHITE – A 17-year-old basketball player from Alabama, tragically passed away after collapsing on the basketball court while playing the game he loved.
Caleb was a senior student at Pinson Valley High School. He was practicing with his teammates at around 1:15 p.m. when he suddenly felt unwell. He collapsed and was quickly taken to the hospital. Despite the doctors’ efforts, they couldn’t bring him back to life, as his grandfather, George Varnadoe Jr., shared on Facebook.
Caleb was a tall and talented basketball player, standing at 6 feet. He was the No. 3 player in the state of Alabama and ranked 43rd in the country by ESPN. He played as both a shooting guard and a point guard and was going to be the team captain in his final year of high school.
Caleb’s grandfather described him as an honor student, respectful, smart, and a phenomenal basketball player. The family had high hopes for his future in basketball, aiming for him to play in college and possibly in the NBA. Sadly, those dreams were cut short.
It’s believed that Caleb suffered from cardiac arrest, although the official cause of death is yet to be determined by the coroner. The news of Caleb’s passing is a reminder that sometimes young athletes can face serious health problems during intense physical activities. Last month, a high school football player from Long Island and a 12-year-old boy from New Jersey both faced similar fates.
Caleb’s family, classmates, basketball team, and the entire school community are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
