Former Eat Bulaga host Joey de Leon admits to watching the rebranded version of the show
JOEY DE LEON – The former Eat Bulaga host admitted in an interview with Julius Babao that he had watched the rebranded version of the show.
He even mentioned that he used to watch their rival program, ‘It’s Showtime,’ so it was inevitable for him not to catch glimpses of their former show. Joey clarified that he had no negative comments about the current hosts of Eat Bulaga, namely Paolo Contis, Isko Moreno, Buboy Villar, and others. He acknowledged that they were just working hard.
However, Joey expressed surprise at the criticisms the new show had received. He mentioned that he hadn’t anticipated the extent of scrutiny and the flood of comments that emerged on social media. He distanced himself from engaging in such discussions.
During the interview, Joey also addressed the ongoing trademark issue surrounding Eat Bulaga. Both TVJ and TAPE Inc. claimed ownership of the brand, and he noted that a judgment regarding the rightful owner was nearing.
Despite this, Joey firmly believed that he was the rightful owner of the Eat Bulaga title. “Nasa batas ‘yan Jules.. Nakasulat e, kung sino ang nakaisip sa kanya yan,” he said.
Meanwhile, it can be recalled that it was from May 31 to June 4, 2023, when “Eat Bulaga” suspended live production as original hosts Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon departed TAPE Inc. due to a dispute. The announcement was live-streamed on social media, and a replay episode aired on GMA Network. Other hosts and production members also resigned.
