LGU Releases Order Prohibiting Parties, Loud Music in Boracay Island on Good Friday
BORACAY ISLAND – Malay, Aklan local government unit (LGU) released a memorandum directing the prohibition of parties and loud music on good Friday.
A lot of Filipino families prefer going out of town during the Holy Week. Many people prefer to spend a few days at beach resorts or mountain tops where they can enjoy the silence, relax, reflect, and meditate. Most individuals have no work and the students have no classes on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Some people resume working on a Black Saturday.
This year’s Holy Week celebration is connected to a long weekend as March 10 is also a non-working day in the country in celebration of the Day of Valor (Araw ng Kagitingan). There are also of resort bookings as some individuals take the chance to be with their loved ones.
One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Philippines is Boracay Island. It is also widely-visited by many people every Holy Week. It is no secret to the public that partying is quite common in the island as a form of fun in the place but it is prohibited on Good Friday.
Based on a report on GMA News Online, a memorandum prohibiting the conduct of parties and the playing of loud music in Boracay Island on Good Friday was released. Malay Vice Mayor Niño Carlos Cawaling penned a memorandum to the Business Permits and Licensing Office directing the office not to issue special permits for such activities on Good Friday.
According to the report, the said order is backed by the Sangguniang Bayan resolution in 2009 which does not allow the conduct of parties and the playing of loud music on a Good Friday.
Reportedly, parties are allowed in Boracay Island until Maundy Thursday and it may resume on Black Saturday.
