A sakristan goes viral online after he accidentally falls asleep amid homily during a mass in the church.
A video that went viral on social media recently showed a sacristan who had fallen asleep in the middle of a homily during mass and failed to assist the priest afterward. However, instead of receiving criticism or ridicule, the incident was met with amusement and understanding from many netizens.
The video, which was shared on TikTok by Father Richard Lagos of the Shrine of the Holy Face of Jesus-Immaculate Conception Parish in Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija, shows CCTV footage of the sacristan momentarily slouching down on his seat and falling asleep during the homily.
After the homily, the altar boy was supposed to bring out the container of hosts to be filled with wine and water, but he was nowhere to be seen. Several seconds had passed and the priest noticed that the sacristan was still asleep. Instead of waking him up, the priest decided to take care of the task himself and continued with the mass.
It wasn’t until a man who appeared to be in charge of the slides presentation woke up the sacristan that he jolted up in surprise. In another TikTok video, Father Lagos expressed his gratitude for the kind messages he received from netizens.
The incident has garnered positive responses from many people, who appreciated the priest’s understanding and compassion towards the sacristan. It also highlights the importance of rest and taking care of oneself, especially for those who work in service to others.
