Update on Roel Degamo Slay Case amid Investigation
ROEL DEGAMO SLAY – The military returned to the areas that were significant in the arrest of the suspects over the death of Governor Roel Degamo.
Investigations over the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo are ongoing. The authorities previously affirmed that they are on the process of finalizing the probe. Three (3) suspects over the death of the Governor are in the hands of the authorities.
Men wearing pixelated uniforms barged in to the gate of the Governor’s compound last March 4. Reportedly, there was a guard guarding the gate but one of the men pushed the gate and allowed his companions to get in and they lodged their motive.
Gov. Roel Degamo was rushed to the hospital as well as the other victims of the attack. Unfortunately, the Governor, his ally, and several civilians died after obtaining wounds from the incident.
After five (5) hours since the attack, three (3) suspects of the Roel Degamo slay were arrested by the authorities in the mountaineous area of Negros Oriental. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the military recently returned to the areas that were significant in the arrest of the suspects.
The first stop was where the suspects abandoned the vehicles they used in the attack. The cars malfunctioned thus they decided to leave the vehicles. The second stop was the area where the suspects left all of the vehicles and started walking to the mountain.
Lieutenant Jay-R Labasan led the team that nabbed the suspects. Based on the report, the residents of the area were the ones who narrated the passing of suspicious men. The residents were suspicious as they were looking for “barangay Punong” and not “Sitio Punong” which hinted them that the men are not residents of the place.
The military followed the direction given by the residents. The sniffing dogs also helped lead them to the lifeless body of one of the suspects amid the sugarcane plantation. Reportedly, the suspects stopped at the place that is around one-kilometer from the said sugarcane plantation. They thought that they are already safe from police authorities. However, the residents were suspicious of them so they left one-by-one.
Two of the suspects were resting when the authorities arrived. They are now in the hands of the authorities and the Supreme Court approved the DOJ’s request to transfer the investigation to Manila Regional Trial Court.
