Cong. Arnie Teves Reaches Out to House Speaker Romualdez
ARNIE TEVES – House Speaker Martin Romualdez confirmed that the Congressman reached out to him but the call was “from an undetermined location”.
One of the suspects in the slay of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo accused Cong. Arnolfo Teves Jr. as the alleged mastermind behind the plot. Three (3) suspects were nabbed by the authorities just a few hours since the attack at the house of the Governor in Pamplona.
It was daytime last March 4, Saturday, when men wearing pixelated uniform entered the house of the Governor and shot him and several people who were there. The victims were rushed to the hospital but the Governor, his ally, and several civilians died.
Prior to being accused as the alleged mastermind behind the attack of Gov. Roel Degamo, Cong. Arnie Teves spoke and claimed that he received an information that he will be pinned down in the death case of the Governor. He and the Governor are political rivals and the latter unseated his younger brother, Pryde Henry Teves, when the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared Degamo as the rightful winner.
Cong. Teves flew to the United States a few days before the incident. He obtained a travel clearance from the House of Representatives but it expired last March 9. However, he has yet to return to the country.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, House Speaker Martin Romualdez confirmed that Cong. Arnie Teves called him and expressed his concern over his and his family’s safety thus he has yet to come home to the country.
According to the House Speaker, the Congressman called “from an undetermined location” but he reiterated his previous advice to him to go home to the country. He assured the Congressman of his security as he cited that he has already ordered the House Seargent-at-Arms “to coordinate with the law enforcement agencies and prepare appropriate security arrangements”.
House Speaker Romualdez revealed that he told Cong. Teves during a phone call last night that the Congress also wants to hear his side. He stressed that the Congressman should face the accusations in the Philippines and not while outside the country.
