MTRCB Releases Statement On Toni Fowler’s “MPL” Music Video

MTRCB – The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board recently released a statement about the music video of Toni Fowler and Freshbreed’s “MPL”.

As of this writing, the music video of “MPL” already has 5.8 million video views.

The Board has issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the alleged “SPG (Strong Parental Guidance)” rating of the music video of Toni Fowler and Freshbreed’s “MPL”.

According to MTRCB Chairman Diorella Maria “Lala” Sotto-Antonio, the agency received complaints from the public regarding the vulgar content of the said video over the weekend.

Citing an article from Bandera, Sotto-Antonio said that Papi Galang – the pregnant woman in the music video – was quoted in an article alleging that the song and music video of “MPL” was rated as “SPG”.

Sotto-Antonio then informed the viewing public that “MPL” didn’t undergo MTRCB review and classification, hence, “MPL” wasn’t given any rating by the Board. She also stressed that had the Board been given the opportunity to rate “MPL”, it would have been given an “X” rating or a “Not for Public Exhibition” rating.

We appeal to Ms. Galang, to be circumspect in her statements, and for news organizations such as Bandera to practice responsible journalism by fact-checking their reports before publication, as the public may be led to believe that the MTRCB had given its highest allowable rating for airing content on television to the said material,” Sotto-Antonio said.

Sotto-Antonio also reminded the viewing public that they may use the report/flag option on YouTube and other online platforms in order to report or flag content they deem inappropriate or offensive to their sensitivities.

The MTRCB chairman also said that they are working on proposed amendments to their charter that are both fair to the creative industry and mindful of the needs of the Filipino viewing public.
