Here’s the opinion of Arnold Clavio on teenage pregnancy
ARNOLD CLAVIO – The veteran broadcaster shared his opinion about teenage pregnancy.
The Philippine Statistics Authority’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System reports that there were 180,916 live births among teenagers aged 10 to 19 in 2019. The figure translates to 495 live births per day among aged 10 to 19.
Based on the January 2020 Policy Brief by the United Nations Population Fund Philippines, only three percent of all live births within the adolescent age group are fathered by men of the same age group. According to the briefer, such pregnancies may be caused by “coercion and uneven power relations between girls and older men.”
A recent Senate session addressed teen pregnancy. Senator Raffy Tulfo stated that the government should concentrate on preventing adolescent pregnancies. The senator claimed that one of the primary causes of adolescent pregnancy is early exposure to alcoholic beverages. He urged the government to strictly enforce the regulations governing the sale of alcoholic beverages.
Arnold Clavio, then, expressed his opinion about the matter. “Kumpirmado ba na pag may alak may balak?” he asked.
One of the co-hosts of Clavio, Susan Enriquez, noted that alcohol consumption may also contribute to teenage pregnancy since it impairs users’ judgment, increasing the likelihood of engaging into se*ual acts.
“Yung iba naman ang sitwasyon nilalasing talaga nila yung biktima nila kasi gusto nila,” he said. “Baka naman may inilalagay doon sa alak kaya nawawala [sa sarili],” Susan responded.
