The President sat down with the Philippine Broadcast Media for a special interview at the Presidential Broadcast Studio in Malacañan Palace last January 23, 2023.

On Monday, the President said in an interview that he’s losing sleep over the country’s inflation rate that pushed the prices of goods up.

Yan ang problema ko na hindi nagpapatulog sa akin eh, yung inflation eh… that’s what I lose sleep every night over is how to bring down inflation,” the President said. “I’m determined to bring down, to make sure that inflation starts to come down in the first quarter and mag-normalize na pagkatapos noon.

The inflation rate clocked in at 8.1 percent in December 2022, faster than the 8.0 percent rate in November 2022 and 3.1 percent in the same month in 2021. This, according to National Statistician and PSA chief Claire Dennis Mapa, is the “fastest inflation rate since November 2008’s 9.1%”

The President also underscored the need to improve production, especially of agricultural products, in order to address the issue.

In the same interview, the President said that he would have fewer trips abroad for the rest of 2023.

According to the President, his administration would make “follow-ups” on the agreements and discussions he had made with world leaders and heads of state in his previous trips abroad.

He added that the only travel confirmed for 2023 after his visit to Japan next month is his attendance at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in the United States in November.
