The Branch 197 of the Regional Trial Court of Las Pias City acquitted Juanito Jose Remulla III in the drug possession charge or violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Juanito Jose is the son of Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla. He was arrested on October 11, 2022 after accepting a package from the United States containing 900 grams of kush, a high grade marijuana worth P1.3 million.

Secretary Remulla stated at the time that he will not intervene in his son’s case because justice will be served. However, on Friday, January 6, 2023, the court ruled in favor of Juanito Jose as Acting Presiding Judge Ricardo Moldez ll ordered his release due to a lack of evidence.

Meanwhile, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman compared the case of the son Boying Remulla and former Sen. Leila de Lima, both in relation to illegal drugs.

“It is grossly unfortunate that the exoneration of a Remulla scion was swift but the liberation of former Sen. Leila de Lima is stranded in the dark tunnel of injustice,” he said according to TNT Abante.

It can be recalled that De Lima, a former senator, has been held at Camp Crame on drug charges since 2017. She has categorically denied the charges leveled against her.
