NU Pep Squad bested the other performing schools in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena. The Bulldogs, who were decked up in the eye-catching hues of pink, blue, and yellow, battled back to win their sixth UAAP CDC championship in nine seasons by doing exploits during a performance known as “Cheerobics.”

In order to retain its 2019 title, NU PEP Squad defeated the Far Eastern University Cheering Squad, which had won the competition just last May. A total of 723 points were scored by the Bulldogs, 719 by FEU, and 640 by UST.

With a Francis M-routine, the FEU Cheering Squad was content with silver, while the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe finally made it onto the podium by taking bronze with a Lady Gaga dance. With their P-pop performance, UE Pep Squad comes in at number four, followed by Adamson Pep Squad in fifth place and the theme “Reinvention.”

On the other hand, UP Pep Squad secured the sixth spot followed by DLSU Animo Squad in seventh place, and Ateneo in last place anew.

After all, it wasn’t a smooth-sailing victory for the NU Pep Squad. Following their winning performance, there were netizens who accused the group of plagiarizing a dance routine.

This prompted other netizens to defend the group. According to them, there’s no plagiarism in the dance routine of the winning team. Here’s the reaction of some netizens retrieved by Fashion Pulis:
