The longest Christmas season is observed in the Philippines. Malls start playing Christmas music and selling Christmas decorations and gifts when the first “ber” month (September) starts.

Traditional Christmas fare is beginning to appear in supermarkets and grocery stores. The freezers and shelves begin to be filled with ham and Edam cheese.

One of the remarkable festivities during the yuletide season is Christmas Eve or Noche Buena. Filipinos consider this to be a very special evening because it is when family and close friends visit to share a very special Christmas dinner. The late-night Christmas eve mass, known as the Misa de Gallo, usually precedes this occasion.

Families in the Philippines enjoy a midnight ham and cheese feast before Christmas, which may seem strange to Westerners.

Ahead of the Noche Buena celebration, DTI has released a price guide for products consumed on the night before Christmas. Unless otherwise stated, Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) apply nationwide. Both supermarkets and wet markets fall under this distinction.

According to DTI, among the Noche Buena products that should follow SRPs are the following; ham, fruit cocktail, cheese, keso de bola, mayonnaise, sandwich spread, pasta/spaghetti, elbow macaroni, salad macaroni, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, and creamer or all-purpose cream.
