It’s Christmas time in the Philippines and giving gifts to our loved ones has long been a tradition. Filipinos have a unique version of exchanging gifts called “Monito Monita.”Just like Secret Santa, it is typically done in groups of friends, classmates, or coworkers.

One must give a small gift to monito or monita every day or every week depending on the terms set by the group. Usually, an agreed amount is set. Each week has a theme that should be followed, such as; something soft, sweet, long, edible, yello, pink, orange, hard, round, sour and etc.

One may also cite their “wish list”. But the identity of the giver should be kept a secret until “Revelation Day” wherein the final gift is given.

Speaking of, a netizen took to social media wherein he shared that he received a coconut fruit during their mini-exchange gift.

“Sabi sa theme ng monito monita something hard. Grabe naman yung nareceive ko,” he wrote.

The exchange gift in their office happens every week and last week, the theme is “something hard” worth P50. As expected, the item he received garnered mixed reactions from the netizens.

A netizen commented: “Hahaha! Buti hindi NIYOG kundi magkakayod ka pa.” Another said that it’s perfect for “buko salad.”
