Official statement of Miss Planet International
MISS PLANET INTERNATIONAL – The organizing committee of the pageant has issued a statement after several complaints concerning the event itself.
Miss Planet International is a global beauty pageant for single women held every year. On an international stage, contestants compete for the title.
It is a movement that seeks to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and as such, they have created a pageant in search of an ambassador in each country to effect change in their societies for a better future for future generations. This pageant provides the ideal combination of culture, advocacy, and a high-quality show.
Earlier, the country’s representative to the pageant, Herlene Budol, has withdrawn from the pageant. It was announced by no less than her manager Wilbert Tolentino. According to him, they backed out due to uncertainties by the organizers.
Some candidates such as Miss Planet Czech Republic 2022 Tamila Sparrow, described the pageant a scam. On the other hand, Miss Planet Jamaica 2022 Tonille Watkis said it was canceled.
Amid the allegations thrown at the pageant, National Director of Miss Planet Uganda Monica Akech said the pageant “will go on as planned.”
“Yes there has been a few challenges due to some delays beyond our control that led to program adjustments, but a lot of effort has been put to ensure that everything is streamlined and candidates are safe and sound,” she said.
“On behalf of the organizing team, I would like to assure all that a repeat of the previous day’s incidents will not happen, but focus shall remain on providing the contestants and viewers an amazing time in the pearl of Africa,” she added.
Meanwhile, preliminary competitions will begin the coming week, broadcasted via NBS and Sanyuka TV- through the Afro mobile app. The coronation night of the pageant was scheduled for November 19.
