Gunman says a certain Bantag ordered them to kill Percy Lapid
PERCY LAPID – A certain “Bantag” has been pointed out as the alleged “mastermind” in the killing of the veteran broadcaster.
Percival Mabasa, also known as Percy Lapid, was shot dead on Monday evening, October 3, in Barangay Talon Dos, Las Piñas City. Lapid was on his way to work for his online broadcast program “Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242 when he was shot several times at the gate of BF Resort Village at around 8:30 p.m.
Lapid was a columnist for Hataw and the host of the online broadcast program “Percy Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242. He was known for his furious commentaries on different happenings in the country, especially in politics.
In the affidavit retrieved by GMA News, Joel Escorial, the gunman, said that a middleman from the Bilibid told him that the “mastermind” in the killing of Lapid is a certain “Bantag.”
“Subalit dahil patay na po siya ay sasabihin ko na po na talagang sinabi niya sa akin na si BANTAG ang nag-utos sa amin,” Escorial said.
According to him, the middleman told him about it when they got a chance to talk before he was found lifeless in Bilibid. Jun Villamor, one of the alleged middlemen was found to have died at the New Bilibid Prison of natural causes.
Meanwhile, Suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director-General Gerald Bantag has yet to give any statement regarding the revelation of Escorial. Bantag has been suspended amid pending results of an investigation into possible lapses at the national penitentiary.
