Percival Mabasa, also known as Percy Lapid, was shot dead on Monday evening, October 3, in Barangay Talon Dos, Las Piñas City.

Lapid was a columnist for Hataw and the host of the online broadcast program “Percy Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242.

He was known for his furious commentaries on different happenings in the country, especially in politics.

Lapid was on his way to work for his online broadcast program “Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242 when he was shot several times at the gate of BF Resort Village at around 8:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the bounty for the gunman who killed Lapid has reached 6.5 million pesos.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez announced that congressmen have raised P5 million as a reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the gunman who killed the broadcaster.

On Friday, NCRPO Chief of Police Brigadier General Jonnel Estomo announced a P1.5 million reward for information leading to the suspect’s location.

The one million pesos came from the victim’s family’s “friends,” while the P500,000 came from Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos.

Romualdez stated in a statement that they are concerned about what happened to Lapid.

“The perpetrators and the masterminds behind this dastardly act must be brought to justice at all costs. Violence has no place in a civilized society like ours,” he said.

Romualdez went on to say that journalists’ freedom of expression and speech must be protected.
