Here’s the reaction of Arnold Clavio on the appointment of Cascolan as DOH undersecretary
ARNOLD CLAVIO – The broadcast journalist reacted to the appointment of former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Camilo Cascolan as one of the undersecretaries of the Department of Health (DOH).
Camilo Pancratius “Pikoy” Pascua Cascolan is a retired law enforcement officer who served as the 24th Chief of the PNP.
He was the first Cordilleran to lead the country’s national police force.
He has served the PNP for 28 years. Prior to that, he served the Philippine Constabulary for five years.
It was just recently when he was appointed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as one of the undersecretaries of DOH.
His appointment was confirmed by the health department on October 23, 2022.
Apparently, there were some who questioned his appointment.
But for Arnold Clavio, there’s nothing wrong with the appointment of Cascolan.
In an Instagram post, Clavio said that it wasn’t the first time that former uniformed personnel has been assigned to such a post.
He cited for example the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) which was once headed by retired generals.
“Wala akong nakikitang masama sa pagtalaga ni Pangulong Marcos kay Cascolan sa DOH,” he said. “Bakit ? Malala ang katiwalian sa loob ng DOH . Sa nagdaang mga panahon.”
According to Clavio, Cascolan may be the one who can disband the groups that are allegedly doing illegal activities within the DOH.
“Isang taga-labas ang tanging makakakita ng dumi sa loob . Isang bagong nilalang ang kailangan para malaman ang mga mali sa proseso,” he said.
“Kung yan ang magiging trabaho ni Cascolan , maging graftbuster sa loob ng DOH , mas dapat pa tayong matuwa at suportahan ito,” he added.
It can be recalled that several groups opposed the appointment of Cascolan to the DOH because he is not a doctor.
In his statement, the retired general said he will use his experience in ‘management’ to work effectively as DOH undersecretary.
