Meet the oldest man to climb Mt. Apo yet
MT. APO – An 83-year-old senior citizen from Davao City made a record as the oldest man to climb the highest peak in the Philippines.
The Davao del Sur Tourism Office recognized Pascacio Carcedo for setting a new record after he reached the peak on Saturday, September 10, 2022.
Carcedo claimed that he initially scaled three lesser mountains near the town of Santa Cruz in order to prepare for the ascent of Mt. Apo.
He was given the Santa Cruz Trailblazer award and thanked everyone for helping him get to the top of the mountain.
The previous record holder, an 80-year-old Singaporean who also ascended Mount Apo in 2021, was surpassed by Carcedo.
Meanwhile, Mount Apo, also known locally as Apo Sandawa, dormant stratovolcano on the island of Mindanao. It is the most prominent mountain in the Philippines.
It is the highest mountain in the Philippine Archipelago, Mindanao, and the 24th-highest peak of an island on Earth, rising 2,954 meters (9,692 ft) above sea level.
It is located between Davao City and Davao del Sur in the Davao Region, and Cotabato in Soccsksargen, Mount Apo.
The peak overlooks Davao City 45 kilometers (28 mi) to the northeast, Digos 25 kilometers (16 mi) to the southeast, and Kidapawan 20 kilometers (12 mi) to the west.
It is a protected area and a Natural Park in the Philippines.
